The book includes the  reproduction and transcription of 512 archival newspaper notices for runaway enslaved people, notices advertising the capturing of or the sale of enslaved people, an index of names, locations, and subjects, as well as 36 illustrations and 5 maps from the 18th and 19th centuries.
